This Mexican Dine-In Chain Just Revamped Its Entire Menu With More Than 20 New Items

Did somebody say, "Loaded queso burger"?

If any of the following make your belly growl—a burger smothered in smoky queso, a shredded beef brisket fajita, and honey chipotle shrimp—well, there's even more mealtime lust where that came from. A Mexican chain with locations in 31 states has just introduced major menu enhancements that they promise fans will find "bold" and "crave-worthy." You decide.

Headquartered near Dallas, On the Border Grill & Cantina has introduced some fresh upgrades to its contemporary Tex-Mex menu. Starting this past Thursday, guests of the chain's locations around the South, Midwest, and eastern part of the country, with a few restaurants on the West Coast, will see menu additions that range from cocktail and appetizer upgrades to more tacos and heftier entrees ("more steak on the sizzling plate," a rep tells Eat This, Not That!), as well as a new dessert.

On The Border has announced the introduction of 10 new hand-crafted Tex-Mex cocktails. These are led by the ultra-premium Diamante Margarita, as well as Ranch Water with tequila (with Fever Tree Lime Yuzu soda and fresh lime); and the Maker's 'Rita, which features Maker's Mark shaken with fresh citrus sour.

The appetizer menu now features a honey chipotle shrimp dish served up with a spicy avocado ranch dip, plus a more flavorful kick to what they say is their fan-favorite Tortilla Soup.

Tacos & Fajitas

The chain has introduced this "Texas-sized" Smokehouse Fajita dish, which comes with chipotle ribs, jalapeño sausage, braised carnitas and shredded beef brisket. (At 2,530 calories and a near-$40 price tag, this one might be a sharer.)

On the Border has also brought in a couple new taco concepts, like Tacos Al Pastor with braised carnitas and pineapple salsa.

Tortas

Lovers of Mexican food know a torta means a mean sandwich, typically on crusty bolillo rolls—like these: A Monterey Ranch Chicken Torta with mesquite-grilled chicken and crumbled bacon, and a Braised Carnitas Torta topped with shredded cabbage and creamy red sauce.

It's loaded, it's queso, it's a burger. We might bet On the Border's new Loaded Queso Burger, topped with pickled jalapeños and tortilla strips, is likely to be a hit. (It's also a reported 1,520 calories, just for reference.)

Tres Leches cake

The chain describes their debut of this traditional Mexican dessert as "a light cake soaked in three kinds of sweet milk."

Heads-up on all the above: We're fans of big flavor—just be aware that besides the cocktails, at 750 calories per serving, the Tres Leches appears to be the lowest-calorie dish of On the Border's new menu intros.
