Julie Upton is an award-winning registered dietitian and communications specialist who has written thousands of articles for national media outlets, including The New York Times, US News & World Report, and USA Today. She is a frequent expert nutrition guest on TV programs like ABC World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, and The Today Show on NBC News.
Julie is the co-founder of Appetite for Health, a nutrition communications consulting firm. She has co-authored two books, Energy to Burn: The Ultimate Guide to Fuel Your Active Life and The Real Skinny. Julie has led numerous national initiatives to promote health, fitness, and nutrition in partnership with global brands like Adidas, California Avocados, Chobani, and Trek Bikes.
Julie's athletic accomplishments are numerous: She has completed more than 10 marathons, plus the IronMan Hawaii World Championships, the Swim Around Manhattan Island, and the Trans-Rockies Trail Race. Julie is a Certified CrossFit Level 1 instructor.
Julie holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Michigan State University. She completed her post-graduate training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Julie holds a Master of Science in Nutrition Communications from Boston University. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband.
